* After this volume XXXIV was published, a most rare book came into our hands with the title: *Philokalia of the Sacred Watchful Ones*, pages 699-754. It contains the Commentary of Simeon Metaphrastes on the 50 Sermons of the Egyptian Macarius. But this commentary of Simeon, as we discover by diligent collation, is nothing other than the work ascribed to Macarius and published in the said volume XXXIV, cols. 841-965. Therefore, those things which exist under the name of Macarius in the twelfth century are excerpts from the holy Father’s works by Metaphrastes.
