Corrected according to the Gallican, Vatican, English, and German manuscript codices; as well as the Savilian and Frontonian editions, and augmented with countless additions; illustrated where necessary with a new translation, prefaces, advisories, notes, and various readings; enriched with a new Life of the Holy Doctor, appendices, an onomastic index, and most copious indices; by the work and study of Dom Bernard de Montfaucon, a Benedictine monk of the Congregation of Saint Maur.
The most recent edition, illustrated with all those works which have been edited for the first time by various scholars, both in Rome, in Oxford, and elsewhere, more recently, or which, having already been edited, have been recalled to a more diligent scrutiny of the manuscripts, under the care of J.-P. Migne, editor of the Universal Library of the Clergy, or of the complete courses on the individual branches of ecclesiastical science.
