other than the path frequented by all, do not despise or reject the warnings of conscience. But if you do reject them, once the course of life is finished, conscience itself will rise up against you and accuse you before the Judge, and will expose you to the sentence of the Judge, and you will be handed over to eternal punishments. But you will not suffer this if, along the way, you show yourself favorable to your adversary and accept his reproofs as if they were offered in kindness. For this is what the divine evangelist John declares, saying: "If our heart does not condemn us, we have confidence before God." B V, 4, 5. And this is the victory that conquers the world, our faith. Who is it that conquers the world, except the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?
Cyril: Neither Gentile, nor Jew, nor heretic will prevail against faith, but it itself shall grant us victory over them all.

VERS. 3. Beloved, when I was making every effort to write to you about our common salvation, I found it necessary to write to you, exhorting you to contend earnestly for the faith once delivered to the saints.
Cyril: By these words, he confirms us and at the same time marks the heretics. Do not, therefore, be led astray by the errors and false doctrine of the heretics, since the Holy Spirit warns us through the holy prophets and apostles that such men would arise. For He makes us more settled by this prediction, so that we may utterly abhor their opinions.
