Jesus, therefore, does not wish these things concerning his glory to be spoken of before he is glorified after his passion; for those who heard—and especially the crowds—would have been offended, seeing the one who was so glorified being crucified. VARIOUS READINGS ON THE COMMENTARIES OF ORIGEN ON MATTHEW

Although only a few weeks have passed since the time you gave [this] to me at Wittenberg, I have nonetheless seen many new things since then, and have suffered much on my journey from the cruelty of the winter. Yet all these things, and even much more, had they happened to me, could by no means make me forgetful of our old friendship and the promises I had made. Hence, immediately after I arrived in Vienna, I visited the Imperial Library, where I was received with singular kindness by the illustrious Mr. Kopitar, the Imperial Librarian, and was permitted to inspect the catalogs of the manuscript books; but in these, apart from the following books, I found nothing that pertains to your Origen. Indeed, among the manuscripts of the Imperial Library of Vienna (Greek and Oriental languages), the following theological codices were worth noting:

1) Codex no. 56 (Lambecius 120), in folio, paper, consisting of 227 leaves. It contains a commentary on the Prophet Jeremiah, the book of Baruch, and the Lamentations of Jeremiah. (In the codex, it is attributed to John Chrysostom, but in reality, it contains the commentaries of Origen, Chrysostom, and Theodoret.)

2) Codex no. 177 (Lambecius 19), which contains on leaves 186–203 hypotheses or arguments for all the Psalms according to Symmachus, Origen, etc. This codex was written in the year of salvation 1210; parchment, in quarto.

3) Codex no. 246 (Lambecius 53), paper, ancient, in quarto, very worn and often barely legible; it consists of 129 leaves, containing the Philocalia of Origen. The first twenty chapters are present, the rest are missing.

4) Codex no. 511 (Lambecius 16), parchment, very old, in octavo. It contains 298 leaves. It contains a Psalter from Psalm 9:17 to the end, with a commentary which is entitled: Origen’s Exegesis.

I was more fortunate regarding Origenian codices in Venice at the library of Saint Mark, where the most reverend Abbot Bettio, the supreme librarian, with wonderful and remarkable generosity, allowed me not only to inspect the catalogs of the manuscript codices and to examine whatever books I wished, but also—a thing not permitted to others—to frequent the library every working day and to read and work in his own private room for as long as it was open. Among the codices which Bessarion brought from Greece, I noted these for myself, as they seemed to be of interest to you:

1) Codex no. 43, folio, paper, 291 leaves. It contains Origen’s Exegetical Commentaries on the Gospel of Matthew, volumes VI [sic], namely from X to XVII, inclusive; all of these are already published. There are present, besides, Origen’s Exegetical Commentaries on the Gospel of John, volume XXXII. The divisions of this codex were followed by Ambrosius Ferrarius in his Venetian edition of 1551, in quarto. Some things precede it concerning the errors of Origen. Beginning: "To call Origen a heretic..."
