VIII, 22. *Dominus creavit me.*
Cyril. — If you understand "created me" in reference to the Godhead, it will be equivalent to "appointed me"; just as in that saying: "Create a clean heart in me, O God" (Ps. L, 12), and that: "That he might create two in himself" (Ephes. II, 15). For it is not to be understood materially, as if he were creating those who already exist, but that he might appoint them. Therefore, he appointed me as the beginning of his providential and creative works. For even to David he says: "I, however, have been appointed king by him" (Ps. II, 6).

I, 1, 2. *Thy name is as ointment poured forth.*
It also indicates the name of the Only-Begotten, which has been invoked among all the nations, by which they certainly smell sweetly to him, bearing his appellation—that is, [the name] of Christians.

Paul also was like a maiden, while saying: "I can do all things in him who strengtheneth me" (Philipp. IV, 13).
